What Lies Beneath

Wednesday, November 6, 2025

What lies beneath your surface view?

Definitely a change of season.

More indoor stationary riding.
It has its advantages,
Fewer layers to put on,
More pages read from whatever book
Fits my criteria for plot and size.

Outdoor riding has changing views.
Those areas which have had
Dense vegetation with shades of green,
Which require careful squinting to see
Variations of shape and placement,
Are now open for viewing.

Leaf-littered brown ground
Is visible.
Solid and beautiful in the bareness,
It lets me see underpinnings of
My usual route.

And the trees—
Those wooden bones
Spreading or reaching onto the
Sky background,
Showing me what’s consistently there.

Leafless, they could seem vulnerable,
Yet their “bones” show strength
For this season.

I have seasons, too.
Grey skies and cold temps
Can be hard for me.

Maybe my “solid” self is treelike.
Times of vulnerability,
Times of vibrant “green,”
All part of having a spot in the landscape.

Like one-pedal-stroke-at-a-time,
I get to take this day’s “ride.”

Whatever your “riding” is,
Ride daily and
Know your strength.

Hugs,
Lin

Limerick:

The season has come to see tree-bones
Leaves fall and are gone without tree-groans.
We never have heard
It’s being deferred.
The cycle takes place in all tree-zones.
