What I Learned This Trip
42 mile ride: Start Cannon Falls, MN
Elevation 840 ft.
Friday, September 13, 2019
Hello Friends,
As I biked toward Bob,
Completing last few feet of this journey,
Bob said,
"Congratulations on 500 'unusually-collected' miles!”
That does say it,
"Unusually-collected.”
Today for 20 of 42 miles,
We rode Cannon Trail together, a favorite.
Restaurant lunch mid-ride,
Relaxing and fun.
Chilliest ride day of entire trip!
Autumn temps added to wind & light rain.
Multiple layers worn and adjusted.
I rode 22 miles by myself.
After twenty miles we shared,
Just right for Bob today.
This was fun celebration of adventure
We have completed together.
What did I learn?
Sometimes those "nuggets"
Show up later & unexpectedly.
I'll watch for them.
For now ...
I found repeated requirement to
Adjust plans,
Making best of weather / road / distance options
Was additional layer of "work" during travel.
Fortunately Bob is excellent Map Guy,
Reading paper maps,
Finding possibilities for us.
Still, tiring for us both.
I learned that ...
End goal, can be met in ways unexpected.
Being open to different ways,
Allows pleasure in
Evolving process and completion.
I learned that ...
Maximizing conditions that are working,
While you have them in your favor,
Makes progress on the task.
I learned that ...
Accepting good help offered,
Is smart, strong, advantageous.
Relearned ...
(I relearn this with every long trip,)
One-day-at-a-time efforts,
Whatever the size,
Stack up to get me where I want to be.
Good reminder for me on-bike,
And off-bike too.
Thank you, my Friends.
Your reading along,
Your interest,
Supports me.
Hugs to each of you,
Lin
Limerick:
Though miles of long biking are tiring,
I often can find them inspiring.
The work that I do,
Reminds me its true,
Adventure is effort-requiring.
