Trusting Your Route

The Journey and Adversity

Wednesday, December 23, 2020

Hello My Friend,

How do you trust your route?

"Circle" outing this week,
Circuitous, confusing mapping,
Wandering to next identified spot.

Gravel where blacktop expected.
Rough stretches.
Not having plainly-seen-connection.
Yet we got where we were going.

I thought about the parallel
To daily living.

How often are our paths winding?
Unsure, rough and gravelly?
Connection to next part unclear,
Yet arriving at place that
Is start of continuing journey.

I WILL say, that on a bicycle,
Those rough gravel stretches,
Those miles taking me farther
Out of my way are
Exhausting & demoralizing.

Extra miles on long bike rides,
Wear out my muscles,
Deplete my spirit.
Yet, one-pedal-stroke-at-a-time,
I get there.

Sagging and grumping,
True.
I make it, though.

How can we be fully on journey
When we doubt the destination?
I believe we’ll find the answers together.

In this 2020 time:
Not what I wanted,
Not route I expected,
More "metaphorical gravel" than I want to ride on.

Yet I am "moving down the road.”
Noticing the smooth stretches,
Appreciating times when I see
Different connections.

May your Holiday Season
Warm your heart.

Hugs to you,
Lin
