From Grumpy to Grateful!
Alarm went off 5 a.m.
Bonus half hour of sleep.
Moved,
Groaned,
Sore muscles longed to stay in bed.
Upright—bike clothes on.
Off to high school camp spot for bikers,
Breakfast lines, food ready.
Pedaled big hill to get there,
Getting grumpy.
Well, yes ... “Okay, I'll ride.”
Riding south, different direction.
Guess what? Wind has changed too!
Headwind again.
Town beside a river means
Lo-o-ong hill to leave.
Out on prairie, vast & dry,
Wind in face … Grump! Grump!
Here’s where things changed…
Pulling in at rest stop area,
Volunteer food dispenser person told me,
"I went into Information Center,
met and talked to Scott.
Told him how you started cross-country biking at 60.
Scott wants to meet you."
Inside, Scott shook my hand, said,
"You are my inspiration!”
Then told me his story.
Degenerative disease progressing from teenage to forty,
Required amputation in Oct.
Now with prosthetic leg,
Goals of hiking, horseback riding, biking,
End of story had tears in my eyes.
Optimistic, determined, bright, enthusiastic,
This man is THE Inspiration.
Riding back,
Aware that my journeys started with my
Fully functioning body,
Feeling honored and humble,
Oh, so fortunate.
My day was radiant!
Love you all,
Lin
