Staying On Course

Day 10: Mankato to Madison Ride

Today my bike tripping is ending,
I'm grateful I've had the time spending,
Those miles on the road,
Creating an ode,
Of biking and friendship, all blending.

How do you stay on course?

Ride today was 25 miles for all of us.

Wide variety of experiences today.
Small town start with directions
Clear and impossible to "flub.”

On to an area with endless options.
There I found my best resource,
Local people walking, running, or biking the trails.
Leaning into my “ask for help” shift.

Connected again to Military Ridge State Trail.
Today, only one downed tree.
Easy to shove bike to other side,
And stoop over to get myself there.

Eventually on to Madison's extensive
Trail system—well marked .
Especially if you are familiar with area.

Again,
Bikers I met on trail,
Walking folks,
Were clarifying info-sources.

Clockwise from upper left: Luggage ready to take to the van. Little "Library" along trail. Filling waiting time. Computers and phone. Margaret and Hope. John and Lin—bike break time.

Because ride was short and arrival early,
Long wait for motel rooms.
Available coffee, a couch with cushions.
Made it easy.

Today was my last day of riding with this group.
I will get picked up tomorrow to start
Journey home.

My biker friends will continue on
To Albany, N Y, a five week ride.

Though sorry to end this ride,
I am very grateful for days I got to
Bike with good people,
Good company.

Lucky me.

Hugs,
Lin

Lin, you undertook a great ride. Well done!
Randy and I camped near Military Ridge on the night after the big storm and the next night.
Even though there was damage (trees, or parts of trees, down), we hiked some trails.
