Shifting Gears
Military Ridge Trail in WI: 33 miles over 2 days
Sunday, July 7, 2019
Hello Friends,
Just home from spur-of-moment
Independence weekend bike trip!
Providing transportation for
Sequoia, granddaughter invited to spend
Long weekend at Dog Hollow Farm,
With Aunt Sara and adult cousins.
Prompted Bob's and my doing bike trip on WI
Military Ridge Trail.
That trip has been on "list" before.
This got us there.
Miles ridden ... only 33 over 2 days.
Challenge for me to think it "amounts to anything.”
My "younger days" mentality
Wants to report long mile days.
What I know is:
These days
With connections,
Varied activities,
Short bike miles,
Are rich in ways not requiring long pedaled miles.
Two nights in Dodgeville, WI motel: The “Don Q.”
Eclectic collection, including airplanes
Incorporated into property.
Biking first day was driving to Mt Horab, WI
For start and end point.
Our destination, Verona, WI
Charming: flowers, coffee shops, welcome center,
Ride through farmland,
Nature preserve,
Edges of big construction sites,
Shade and open fields.
Excellent!
Next day's start from motel yielded short ride.
Very black clouds threatened.
Sprinted (on bikes) back to motel…
Rain never showed up where we were.
I found a "bike angel" in Mt Horab.
Wheeling bike across old landscaping site,
Green plastic mesh caught in disc brakes.
Wrapped so tightly, couldn't move bike.
Found the "Trail This" bike shop.
Two blocks off Military Ridge Trail.
Jeff, in shop and able to
Repair, replace, fix what needed fixing.
Hooray, Hooray for Bike Angels!
Weekend had wonderful short connections
With family—Precious.
Bob got to show new bike to appreciative folks.
This way of "engaging while aging"
Is a gift for me to experience and cherish.
Long mile days may (just may, not for certain!)
Be past... Shifting gears...
Engaging in my life
Is my day-to-day gain.
Are there adjustments you can make
To engage more fully in yours?
Sending love and
Hugs to each of you,
Lin
