Seeing Possibilities

What's Your Plan For Winter?

Wednesday, October 28, 2020

Hello My Friend,

One-day-at-a-time, what's your plan for winter?

Even though I knew
"Winter coming soon,”
Eight inches of snow, mid-October,
Grabbed my attention.
Actually, whacked my sense of possibility.

Being a "Fair Weather" cyclist,
Inconvenient in MN seasons.

I own stuff to layer.

A bit scarecrow, rag-tag, mostly works.
A couple of additions could
Increase the comfort.
Layering task can
Knock me flat, drain delight,
Out of bike ride.

Many manage well,
Not me—hence fair-weather rider.

Obviously, I need to see possibility,
In other ways.

Perhaps mileage goal with indoor stationary rides.
Could be one thousand miles by end of March.
Lots of time to pedal those,
Keep my legs moving.

Best goal for me may be
Connecting!

Reaching out to connect.
Engaging with people, listening,
Hearing the challenges,
Sharing that we have these days for
Living fully.

Rather than name my days as
BATTLE --- over COVID, winter, grey days,
This is the time I have
For living fully, one-day-at-a-time.

How can you keep coming back to
"Yes, I Can?”

Hugs to you,
Lin

A new definition of "spinning my wheels!" :>)

At least I can read while racking up stationary miles!

Hi Lynn, I enjoy reading of your cycle adventures, and I listen to your goal setting, and achievements. (I am 60, still working FT in a church office, on hiatus from moonlighting as a massage therapist, during COVID)
My plans for winter?
I bike year round, and absolutely delight in the first time of the season I get to make tire tracks in the snow. (studded tires give me grip). I relish donning each layer of clothing, combining colors and textures and challenging myself on selecting the right combo for the daily degrees and wind.
My cross country ski skills have slipped as I spend more and more time on the bike. By the time I load up and bike to the ski trails, I find I have already had my touch with fresh air and exertion, and don’t really need to drag the skis along to reach that satisfaction. On very slippery days, I walk to work to steer clear of skiddy cars. Be well!

Kaia, I’m delighted to hear of the joy you clearly take in the arrival of snow! Kudos for being a year-round biker—my hat is off to you. Hooray for staying active, for noticing those details that please you. Thanks for following my posts! 🙂
