Day After Mankato to Madison Ride

My third shift is Making Connection.
Beware of choosing this selection—
By reaching someone,
You may well have fun,
And likely results in affection!

Madison, WI—My departure day.

Clockwise from upper left: One downed tree on yesterday's trail. Successfully ducked under. Cindy and John getting ready to roll. Three bikers depart, with Ken watching. This is how Nancy carries daily banana so it doesn't get squished in bike bag. Note huge hello "twist-tie."

How do you handle transitions?

This morning, bikers rode away,
I stayed behind.
Mixed feelings, of course.
I really like bike trips.
The riding, the rhythm,
The connection with bike friends.

This trip was unusual
In that I had one-on-one
Connections with very special
Loved ones in midst of bike days.

Clockwise from upper left: With Hope as Lin leaves ride. Sharon from VT, Lin from MN. Ken and Nancy, owners of bike trip company. Kayak on Lake Monona.

Connections are helpful for
Transition times.
Returning to "regular life"—
Going back to life when
Wonderful fulfilling project is complete.

I'm treasuring the connections.
Riders, extended family, friendships filled with history.

Hooray for Rich Reunions!
Lucky me.

Hugs,
Lin

Homeward bound. I wonder what Wonderful Adventure is possible?

Hi Lin,

During all months of 2024, I prepared for a solo bicycling trip from my home at rural Castle Rock, to visit my son in Madison WI. (And catch a ride back to MN at Memorial Day).

Last week (as you know), bicyclists had to adapt with the frequent rain. I had to wait at home (past that intense storm… Tues, May 21), so on Wednesday I headed East around 5:00 AM, with an excellent, 18 MPH wind behind me… This helped. I had trained for long hours on the saddle, and that strategy helped me.

Yes, I used my rain suit on Friday, May 24, and I had to stop riding during those rains… My son picked me up late on Friday, about 20 miles from Madison.

I had done this trip 15 years ago, and it felt so good to focus my training, to achieve my journey at age 68.

I thought of you daily, as we both were trekking Eastward.

Have a great summer,
Pat

I am delighted to know of your perseverance and victory in the face of such odds! We were, indeed, riding parallel paths. Thanks for telling me about it!
