Never Too Late to Learn
Shakespeare and Lycra
Wednesday, July 17, 2019
Hello Friends,
We said “yes” to a fun adventure:
Shakespeare and a bike trail.
Unusual combination!
Great River Shakespeare Festival,
Nineteen years in Winona, MN,
On campus of Winona State University.
Director is Northfield "lad,”
Same era as David and Scott.
We saw "Cymbeline.”
Well acted, staged, costumed.
Truth is—
I don't much like Shakespeare,
Never can follow All Those Words,
So many words.
Last night I decided to watch story unfold,
Catch dialogue when can,
Let story appear.
That worked!
Here I am, still learning…
Today we biked Great River Ridge State Trail,
Eyota to Plainview, MN paved rail trail.
Nearly private trail for us,
So few other bicyclists.
Pleasant, easy, except it got HOT!
About ninety degrees,
High humidity made for sweaty bodies.
At end of ride,
When came time to shed my bike shorts,
Could hardly peel them off.
If you've been hot and sweaty
In tight lycra clothing,
You know what I mean.
(This might be TMI for some.
If so, stop now!)
While bicycling is mostly about pedaling,
There are other tasks to master.
When there is need to peel down lycra,
With intent of pulling back up,
One can find shorts
Stuck at about hip-bone height,
Leaving several torso inches
Uncovered ... except for bike shirttails.
Naming the uncovered as
"Convenient cooling channel" Is best,
Until skin and fabric
Dry enough to finish the
Hiking up.
Riding was easy, easy 27 miles.
Fun together,
New trail,
Makes me smile.
Hugs to each of you.

Limerick:
Arranging your bike clothes, though tricky,
You can be quite careful and picky.
Yet when it is hot,
You really cannot.
The whole pro-ject is just Too Sticky.
