Luce Line Rail Trail

Two-Day Late Summer Ride

Friday, September 14, 2018

Loaded bikes on car for drive to Winsted, MN
About mid point of Luce Line Rail Trail.

Of course, first thing to do in Winsted:
Find coffee and maybe lunch.
"Crazi On The Lake" turned out to be place for both.
(Owners pictures above.)

If ever your travels take you near Winsted,
Go to "CRAZI.”
Charming interior, extremely nice owners,
Beautiful view, good food & coffee,
Even gluten-free options.

That was excellent start for our 1pm ride launch
On Winsted -> Watertown portion of Luce Line.
Trail, three miles pavement, ten miles crushed limestone
For fifteen-mile portion we rode.

Interesting sights during ride
Past portion of Crow River,
Small lakes,
Road-fill support created entirely by "Gambions.”

Gambions: wire rectangles / bale-shaped filled with rocks.
Creative use of available material for anti-erosion, structural integrity.
(Can you tell? I think gambions are cool)

Trail had equestrian path beside for most miles.
Watertown Park had mini stables for leaving horse,
As well as bike racks.

It was HOT.
Fortunately, lots of shaded sections of trail.
We did good job taking care of ourselves,
Stopping often, drinking lots of water,
Snacks and actually sitting resting.
Thirty miles was right amount of riding.

The single motel in Winsted had a room.
Convenience with one level,
Drive car to door, wheel bike inside.
We like that ease.

Needed some basic maintenance.
Still—clean, hot water, bed.
Hmmmm ... Mirror on ceiling & on wall beside bed.
Our charge was $45.
Maybe that is usually hourly rate. (LOL)

Hugs to each of you.
