Last Day Tour de WYO 2017

Laramie—Cheyenne: 49 miles
(Elizabeth and I rode 39 miles)

Friday, July 21, 2017

This was last day of 2017 Tour de Wyoming ride.

Total ride was 49 miles.
Elizabeth and I rode 39 miles.

Our fabulous SAG person, Bob,
Drove us to top of summit,
Start of "Happy Jack Road.”
We began there at 6am.

That early assist meant
We didn't ride up 5% grade
Shoulder of Interstate 80,
Alongside many big semi trucks.

That would have been safe—
Just unpleasant.

Early morning ride,
Across beautiful mountain terrain,
No other cyclists (still grinding way up 5% freeway)
Cool temps,
Excellent last day ride.

Bonus was tail wind,
Except three miles when it was crosswind.

Elevation drop of 1500 ft.,
Wind at back,
Speedy finish!

End of each ride,
I count my blessings.
Yesterday rider hospitalized,
No details.

I thank conditions
That bring me through safely.

This adventure has reminded me,
What I like about ride
,
What parts I may not include in another trip,
How helpful & kind most folks are
,
That I am so LUCKY
for opportunity.

Hugs and love to each of you,
Lin

Finish Line Limerick:
I've safely completed this bike ride.
Groaning uphill, smiling on glide.
I start out each day,
To work and to play—
Show up for this journey and not hide!

Dawn breaking on Happy Jack Road

Here I come, to the finish line!

Dawn breaking on Happy Jack Road

Ride started under Abe Lincoln's watchful eyes. (On Lincoln Memorial Hwy)

The wind farm again...

More Wyoming geology—i.e. views from the road!

Still some green on these plains...

Historical Marker, Edge of Cheyenne (finish line)

With Elizabeth, (& Bob behind camera)—headed to breakfast celebration.

Some Tour de Wyoming stats from retired librarian SAG guy...
Of the 350 or so riders (volunteers and planning members), the mean age was 55, and the two oldest were 79 (and of the two oldest I know, in their 79th year). The youngest was 7, although I did not ever see that person. 25 were 70 and over and 37% were female. They came from 33 states and two foreign countries.

The planners figure four summits, and 400+ miles, although Lin and Elizabeth did not do quite that many miles and only 3 summits. What an amazing adventure we all had! I drove over 700 miles. —Bob

Suzanne Pfau - July 24, 2017

Congrats! And now a well earned vacation for you both or will you ride again before you start home since you said you wouldn’t be back until August. All is well here.

Next comes a brief visit with long-time friends in Montana, then we return to Wyoming for a weekend family reunion at the end of the month. I don’t expect to put in any long ride days for a while, perhaps until I am home. Nothing formal, anyway. Thanks for your interest!

Hello Lin
I was the Australian on our Cross Country Tour in ’99. I’ve been searching for companions from that amazing trip online and found you. I’m delighted to find you and see you have achieved wonderful cycle trips. Congratulations!
I’m putting a presentation together of our trip and I’ve right back there in my memories.
I see Sue Hart has commented on your trip now too! I’d love to contact Sue and Joan and Jean. I’ve already said hello to Charlene on Facebook.
I’m on Facebook too. All the best to you and great to see you cycling. Kind regards, Isabella
