Lake Michigan Ride—Day 7

Boyne City —Harbor Springs, MI: 51 miles

Saturday, June 9, 2018

Ride today was fifty-one miles.
I rode them all.
Such a different ride day from yesterday.

Early start in cool of day,
Much flatter terrain,
Twenty five miles of bike trail.

Of the nine of us,
Two men riders leave early and
Fast each morning.

One guy, Jerry, has ridden
One hundred-twenty-five-thousand bike trip miles !!!
Seventy-five now, started age sixty-one
When he retired from his hair salon.

First big ride was in 1986 when took junior high daughter to Europe.
Six weeks camping & biking.

Jerry can hardly hear.
We're learning to stand close,
Speak up and directly to him.

I asked about being on highway,
Because I rely on my hearing to keep track of oncoming traffic.
Jerry uses mirror ... diligently.

Jerry's great-grandfather was a barber,
As was his grandfather, father, and so was he.
(He also bought rentals as income source.)

You can read that there are SERIOUS bikers on this trip.
Also some without history,
Making the rides as well.

It is not fun all the time.
I have times of asking myself, "Are we there yet?"
"Do I want to keep riding until we are?"

Still being satisfied at end of day,
Making it from start to finish,
Is motivation.

What's keeps you doing your "next big thing?"
Would love to hear—What's YOUR motivation?

Hugs to each of you,
Lin

P.S. Jerry writes about his trips. You will get a bigger description than my words. Good pictures. www.crazyguyonabike.com/touringbybike

Each to his or her own replenishing snack—John, me, and Margaret.

I chose chocolate milk and a hard boiled egg snack.
