Lake Michigan Ride—Day 14

Munising—Gladstone, MI: 70 miles (I rode 35)

Saturday, June 16, 2018

(Column 1)

I rode 35 miles today.

Hardly any pictures today.
Usual day disrupted by weather.

Report at 7:30am, approaching tornado!
“Stay away from windows, park car protected spot.”
Wow, we didn't want to be outside in that.

Long restaurant breakfast,
Stocking tummies, waiting out weather.
Nothing.

Back at motel at 9am,
Skies opened with heavy, heavy rain.
SO glad to be sheltered in our rooms.

By ten, on bikes, on the road.
Prior to leaving,

We all had this "dance" of changing layers.
Need rain pants? Rain socks?
What about extra layer?

Now sun is out.
Take off those additions.
Where to carry them?
With you or stuff in bags on truck?

Great to have moments to consider what was best,
Place to make changes.

(Column 2)

Thought about how, in life,
We often don't give ourselves time to make
Best choices,
Or surroundings to effect a good change.

Rushing to "get on with it,"
Ignoring what might make it better, pleasant, comfortable.

Hmmmmmm.

Roads through forests, green,
Greyer, cooler, misty /foggy route.
Rain came again in afternoon,
Some wet bikers arriving.

Lodging is in motel on a sub-bay of
Green Bay of Lake Michigan.

Roommate is Paige, new SAG.
Joking that I am her new Foster Grandmother,
We have sixty-year age difference.

I'm glad to have biked.
Grateful for shuttle help.
Arrived for trip thinking I was very fit,
Well trained for miles.

Not so, yet I get help in
Making trip work.
Many days have mileage longer than
I thought I read in description.
GOOD to be with "win-win" organizers.

Hugs to each of you,
Lin

Jumble of bags waiting to be packed. New SAG driver, new routine to be formed...
