Lake Michigan Ride—Day 13

Munising, MI—Rest Day!

Rest Day!
There was a time when Rest Day on my bike trip
Meant...
Cleaning my bike, doing my laundry.

The two rest days we have had have been
Places with Nature tourist spots,
Mackinack Island, and here in Munising, MI
It is Painted Rocks National Lakeshore
Cruises.

I was not going to go.
Then thought, "if not now, when?"
Seeing sandstone formation from Lake Superior water level
Was worth my time.

Often in this life stage,
The "if not now, when" question is important.

Morning started with riders drifting
Out of motel rooms with
Laundry to drape over chairs as drying rack.
Convenient curb prompted some,
To sit—then more, then more still—
Holding coffee from motel office,
Visiting.
Was truly bright,
Connecting part in day off.

Sometimes these "old time motels,”
All one level,
All opening to same curb,
Car-less because we arrive on bicycles,
Are best for encountering each other for visits.
Today was like that.

You remember Stan, who is doing extra miles to reach 1000?
He took thirty mile ride early this morning,
To add to his total.

Feeling fine today,
I plan on taking good care of myself when riding.

Oh, did I tell you that Margaret, SAG driver, went home?
Now Paige is with us.
First time doing this.
She will come to know us all
And our foibles.

Hugs to each,
Lin

P.S. I've had ice cream three times in two days.
Have not found pie in this town.

My daughter would love this: The Jolly Roger is in port!

Painted Rocks National Lakeshore, Lake Superior

Mounted examples of Lake Superior's rocks. Bob and I have spent hours on another shore collecting these!

Rest day, laundry day for all

Needed breeze for drying: used circling fan—creative!

Paige, our new SAG driver

Jolly Roger rigging—skull and crossbones flag has been lowered.
