Gitchi-Gami State Trail
Today's Ride: 20 miles
Wednesday, May 15, 2019
Hello My Friends,
Today Bob and I rode twenty miles on
The Gitchi-Gami State Trail.
Paved and off road,
Views of Lake Superior, through forest,
It is wonderful.
And ... it is NOT flat!
Tired by time returned to Cove Point.
Trail hills and head wind,
First for this season's riding.
Stopped, started so often
For ohhh-and-ahhh views, picture-taking,
Subtracting or adding clothing layers,
Took us 4 hours to cover twenty miles.
Absolutely no reason to rush,
On this ride to enjoy.
What a privilege!
It did feel like Hard Work.
And definitely a gauge for where I am,
In bike stamina thus far.
One knee is sore.
Tweaked seat height in hopes that helps.
It has in past.
Bob has a new addition for his helmet,
Designed to provide shade for
Nose, tops of ears, back of neck.
Called "Da Brim", he is testing it on this trip.
Will it be a keeper?
You'll be able to tell from pictures as summer progresses.
Sometimes I think Bob and I provide "Comic Relief"
For riders and viewers.
Funny, lumpy layers (effective, not styling),
I wear “Ear-pops” covering ears in all temperatures.
Remember my "Beako" to keep sun off my nose?
I've found it again and it will show up in pictures.
Bob's shade-brim prompted grins and giggles,
A few open-mouthed stares.
We do entertain the riders!
Today reminded me that
Beginning of each subsequent year
Means my personal physical "start point,”
Is a little lower on the scale,
A little lower than I would like.
Remembering to be delighted in what Is Possible,
Rather than rueing what is not,
Is the way I want to think.
That can take deliberate attention from me,
To notice today's possibilities.
My little "in-the-head-voice" reminds,
"Pedals going 'round, cresting another hill, able to ride, another satisfying mile.”
Hooray!
May you have a "Hooray" in your day.
Hugs, Lin
P.S. I'll check in with you after I return to Northfield. Will tell you how week's mileage added up. Did I meet goal?
