From Darkness to Light

Wednesday, December 28th, 2022

Holidays “wrapped” with old usual,
Can make me feel quite confusional.
Made quiet and spare,
With things that show care;
Holidays can be quite beautiful!

How do you shift from darkness toward light?

I’ve learned not to review Christmas memories.
I have the gift of an excellent memory,
Including its flip side of pain.
Years-ago memories, that is.

From ache of very, very, old years past,
I’ve sort-of learned to
Stay in the moment with Holidays.
That’s a good practice—period!

Often, there is gentle space
Away from conventional hubbub.

As this year edges to its last day,
Past our solstice turning-point,
Increasing light, instead of adding darkness.
Even just seconds per day make a difference.

So much to notice through my Gratitude Lens:
Alaska Fish-Chowder from Shari’s recipe,
Flourless chocolate cake,
Whipped cream on multiple items,
Church via Zoom,
Miles pedaled on stationary bike,
Tiny white lights atop china cabinet.

It’s happy here.
All is well.

Hugs,
Lin

Still making fish chowder after all these years? It was originally from Janice Ivey who lived across the street from us on Riverside Drive. Too bad halibut is so pricey these days as that was one way we could use it up after being in the freezer a bit too long!

I so enjoy reading your posts, Lin and of course, keeping up with the family. You are an inspiration to me. Thank you for all you share.

Yes–still making it after all these years! 🙂 Using halibut was a wonderful thing–but not our norm these days. We use whitefish–alwasy frozen here in MN! Still tasty. Janice Ivey’s recipe (which will be forever yours in our memories)… lives on!
