Comfort Zone Cage

Wednesday, July 10, 2024

While biking inside, I growl and groan,
“This is so BORING, I sigh and moan,”
Then I hear that nudge,
And I think “Oh, fudge!
I must step beyond my comfort zone!”

Does your comfort zone ever turn into a cage?

I’m realizing that without
Goal of gaining stamina for
Upcoming bike trip,
I am haphazard about going
Outside to ride.

I’m regular about stationary bike.
Using that for exercise on rainy days.

I’m using that instead of
Heading out to bike a road route.
Bizarre!

You’ve read that I find indoor biking boring,
White walls, uninteresting.
What’s the deal here?

It’s so easy.
No figuring out clothing layers,
Or route that isn’t rain-flooded.
Or checking tires before starting.

I think I’m not challenging myself
Since there is no planned ride on horizon.
I’m maintaining pedaling-muscle tone
While I sit, reading, pedaling, inside.

Even as I write to you,
I know there is some better way.
Using this outside season for
Outside biking is more satisfying,
Better way to use bike time.

How to shift?
Start logging outside miles?
Know that riding X-miles
Is equivalent to riding to
Some pleasing fantasy-goal-town?

Create a definite outside-ride schedule,
Variable when weather dictates?

Maybe.

I do know that Fun
Needs to be a big piece.

Bike riding is FUN and satisfying.
That’s where I want to stay.

Who knows what will show up.
Seems like a good thing for me,
Raising the question for myself.

Fun keeps us coming back.

What’s fun for you?

Hugs,
Lin
