Choose Your Frame

Wednesday, June 26, 2024

The problem that comes with high water,
It ceases to stay where it “ought-er.”
Beyond filling tanks,
It’s over the banks,
Requiring reports from flood-spotter.

How can you choose a new frame for your challenge?

High Water—
Rain nearly every day,
Heavy when it happens.
We have flooding along our local river.

Cannon River is over its banks.
Bike trail is water-covered
In areas I’ve never known it to be.

There is an almost “carnival mood,”
As people flock to see water rushing.
Ice cream stores are selling out.
People sit beside what was a sidewalk,
Swishing their feet in the water.

Huge tumbling logs trapped
In rushing swirls,
So that logs disappear and reappear,
Like bobbers on a giant fishing line.

Yes, property is being damaged,
Happily, people’s lives have not been lost.
The outlook has stayed festive.

When viewed from spots of safety,
It is exciting.

I understand there is the other side—
Loss of crops, damaged buildings.

I see spaces transformed into lakes,
On which ducks are already swimming.

Many ways of experiencing
This time—of framing it.
May we Choose Our Frame!

May you be safe.

Hugs,
Lin
