Celebrating Life

Wednesday, March 19, 2025

When you come upon your next Birthday,
Please think upon it as a "Gateway.”
Just what will there beβ€”
To live and to see?
To dig in and know, or just survey?

What are you celebrating today?

This was the week of my birthday.
March 13, I turned 86 years old!
What a privilege.

Clockwise from upper left: My last day of being 85, Receiving the birthday serenade, Candles blown out, wish fulfilled, Ferry joy with Lindy

You may remember that my first
Big bicycle trip started on my 60th.
Lots of life and bike-trip miles since then.

Some struggles up hills.
Some descents so fast
I nearly burned up my brake pads
Trying to stay at speeds I could manage.

Always, such parallels to
Life-off-the-bike.

It took me quite a while to
See the similarity.
Now I notice it often.

Sameness of situations
Holding the same lesson.

Lin and Bob walking in Lindy's neighborhood

One-pedal stroke at a time
Gets me to that day's destination.
Little bits completed daily
Add up to finish the task.

Asking for directions
Keeps me from being lost.
Accepting help
Can get me through hard days.

Connecting with others
Makes everything better.

Laughing at hard times (when possible)

Lightens the load.

Yep, noticing what "Keeps me keeping on"

Works for life and biking.

Of course, Life has some hard days.
Staying optimistic, keeping at "it"
Whatever the "it,” is the challenge.

With these octogenarian days,
Finding the "it" can be its own test.
Sense-of-purpose often elusive.

And here I am.
Healthy, celebrated by friends.
With a life containing loved ones.

At this time,
My octogenarian-plus life is good,
Lucky me.

My daughter says
Our Purpose in Life
is to feel Joy.

I like that.
Celebrating Joy,
Whatever the source!

Hugs,
Lin

Welcome Lin, 86 isn’t too bad, except the days seem to fly by as we enjoy each new adventure. Happy Birthday Lin and best wishes to your partner, Bob, and Lindy too.
