Celebrating Grief

Wednesday, March 5, 2025

The Life Celebration we're sharing,
Is filled with the grief we are bearing.
Yet, that's only part,
That fills up each heart.
It shows us how much we are caring.

How do we celebrate grief?

Back in Northfield, MN.
Were we really away?

Here with crowded to-do-lists,
To reenter and prepare for next travel:
March 6 we fly to Seattle,
Where daughter Lindy is grieving.

Whatever tasks we can do,
However we can help ...
That's our hope.

First task on return home: LAUNDRY!

Big on our " Lindy-list" are hugs,
Listening, tears, gentle rest,
For all of us.

In first two days of MN return,
We attended two "Celebration of Life" services.
One for our son-in-law, Ty, via Zoom.
Other in a church for our beautiful friend, Winnie.

Events as different as can be.
Each filled with honoring, appreciating,
Noticing lives lived in personal styles
Totally unlike the other.

Still about this human person.

Zest, joy, caring.
Unwittingly modeling life as
Active, present with others,
With possibility for even More.

Of course, the "More" varies.
From Delicious food ...
To conquering kettlebells.

Aren't we all so varied—
Yet living our own style of
Life that matches, and is possible?

Harlingen Airport sculpture from ocean trash plastic. Wow!

Gathered to remember and honor.
Having the gift of grief-filled
Authentic tears from speakers.

Those come with our gathering,
Zoom or in-person.
Hard, sad, pulling up memories of
Our own losses.

Drippy noses, red tearing eyes,
Choked voices...
Part of honoring.

Connection with others feeling loss.
Celebrating Grief.

Grief crosses all of our paths.
May we celebrate through connection.

Hugs,
Lin

Lin,

Your description of grief is authentic… it is the way that we experience it. Randy and I say prayer for your daughter as her grief can overwhelm. Bob and you offer the gift of ‘presence’. This is wonderful.
