Breathtaking Beauty
Wednesday, November 1, 2023
Such great joy came out of a short trip—
Connections and beauty could outstrip
Some fancified plan,
Though of a short span—
The time spent was really quite “blue chip.”
You know “filled-to-the-top-nearly bursting?”
I’ve returned from a one-day trip.
Wisconsin for focused visits
With amazing individuals,
Who happen to be grandchildren,
And their amazing spouses.
Of course, that visit included interacting with
Great-gran Samara, nearly one year old.
Fine talk-time with those folks.
Truly a gift.
Gift from trip I had not expected:
Swathes of brilliant, autumn color
Stretched across our route.
Flanks of hillsides ablaze,
End-of-season blast of breathtaking beauty.
I had gasps of “Oh Look!”
At each next vista.
Almost more beauty than I could take in.
That, added to loving connections
Made for a magical one-day-away.
Have you had an experience of feeling
Filled to-the-top with awe and joy?
Nearly bursting with gratitude for having been there?
Wow!
Of course, I want to have it be “always.”
To grip onto the connections, the color,
To “backtrack,” to have it again and again.
I have learned to cherish those moments.
To hold them close,
And recognize those gifts.
Then tuck them into my file of “precious memories.”
Back home, I took a walk to
Disperse the bit of melancholy that crept in.
Out loud I sang the funniest songs I could think of,
Laughed at the lyrics, soaked in the sun,
Delighted with my one-day-WI-trip gifts.
Hugs.
