Being Brave

Saying "Yes" to Opportunities Means Feeling the Fear and Doing it Anyway!

Friday, April 27, 2018

Hello My Friends,

Biking outside now!
Our weather Is warm enough—
Clear roads, snow nearly gone.
Hooray!

Training outdoors much more appealing
Than stretches of time on indoor bike.

Today was SO windy.
Bob wisely picked our route,
First into the wind.
Really hard work going out.

I was thinking as I made the turn,
Putting the wind at my back....
Riding with wind has life parallels.

Adversity and bad times are like
Wind in your face making things so difficult,
So hard to move forward even with max effort.

When direction changes,
With wind at my back,
I glide along my route.
Nearly unaware of wind's assist,

I’m aware of receiving
Support on many levels
.

I went to California for three days.
Spur of moment invitation to "Limitless Women,"
Conference put on by entrepreneur Laura Gisborne.

First response to possibility was:
I couldn't on such short notice.
Too difficult to make arrangements,
I'd be the outsider,
I wouldn't know what to pack,
I might get lost.

All kinds of "stopper" excuses.
Easy for me to pull those up when I am scared.
I was scared—I did it anyway.

It was a wonderful experience
With a stellar group.
So good to have gone.
New connections, zest from gathering.
Reminder to me to say "yes" in face of fear.

Years ago I told son David Bruce
I'd like to travel with him sometime,
Because he was brave and did things.

David said, "Oh Mama, I get scared,
I just do them anyway.”

Wisdom to live by!

Sending hugs to each of you,
Lin

P. S. More wisdom to live by, this from
A. A. Milne—author of “Winnie the Pooh.”

Walking along holding hands, Winnie-the-Pooh says to Piglet,

"Promise me, you'll always remember:
You're braver than you believe,
And stronger than you seem,
And smarter than you think.”

Nice job, Lin. So glad you seized the moment. In my book, that IS brave! I’m glad for the reminder, too, that everywhere we dare to go, there are good people to meet.
Love you. <3
